Grapes Abroad
Tonight I’ll be tasting wines made from grapes not grown in their native soils. Getting to see how a varietal crosses itself away from home is a remarkable thing. This will be very fun folks.
Scuttlehole Chardonnay: delicious chard from Long Island New York! Steel tank fermented and no malolactic. This wine is crisp and its fruit is dazzling transparent.
Antiniolo Rosato: ( the only native wine). 100% Nebbiolo from Gattinara. Spicy red berries, snappy acidity, and mineral driven.
Cantina Santadi Carignano del Sulcis: 100% Carignan from Sardinia. Normally a French varietal, in Sardinia it’s found itself. And it’s cherry, plum, floral notes and soft tannins are absolutely lovely.
Matthiasson Lagrein: an Italian mountain varietal grown in El dorado county and produced by Napa cult winemaker Steve Matthiasson. A labor of love, and what a love it is.
See ya at The Market.
