FREE Wine Tasting

This Friday’s tasting will be a classic all Italian lineup with wines from Lazio, Campania, and The Piedmont. When in doubt, choose Italian, right? We will be going through a full gamut of styles and expressions, so come thirsty and eager.
We will be tasting:
1). Antoniolo “Bricco Lorella” rosato: a real gem of a rose coming from the tiny region of Gattinara, made entirely from Nebbiolo. This wine snaps with crisp acid, orange citrus, crunchy red berries, rose petals, and fine textured tannins.
2). Le Lune Del Vesuvio “Janesta”, Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio: a white blend of the ancient Coda di Volpe grape and Falanghina. It is expressive and refreshing, with ripe flavors of citrus, peach, and a surprising hint of banana!
3). Cotarella “Sodale” Merlot: Merlot is amazing, especially from Italy. This is a hill I will die on. Renzo Cotarella is the chief wine producer of the exalted Antinori family and their wines. This Merlot comes from his families personal estate, and it stunning at a fraction of some his Antinori counterparts.
4). Ermanno Costa Roero Riserva: This is pound for pound one the finest Nebbiolo wines in the entire store. Ermanno Costa is a very small winery, and having this wine to sell is a privilege. At half the price of entry level Barolo, I know this will be a Nebbiolo lovers new favorite producer.

Tasting wines from Italy and Spain! I specifically wanted to look at wineries whose wines go against their regional expectations. Having a flagship style of wine is crucial in today's world market to connect wine lovers to new regions, giving us points of reference upon which to learn and grow our wine knowledge.

I’m very lucky here at The Italian Market to get to meet people and taste wines from all over the world. I have a deep love for Italian wines, especially those made with Sangiovese. So it was wonderful to meet and taste with Alberto Passeri, agronomist and General Manager of the La Gerla wine estate in Tuscany.

The weekend is almost here, and that means another Free Friday Wine Tasting! In my never ending pursuit to find the best wines for the people of Annapolis I have selected a bunch of new wines from excellent small producers for our tasting. Rose and red wines from Chianti Classico, refined Sardinian Nuragus, and a chillable Aglianico from Campania will be on my table, ready and waiting to be shared. I’ll see everyone this Friday!

These are wine businesses that are owned and operated by a collected group of grape growers, that produce and sell wines made from the grapes of their members. These business can range in size from a small facility servicing just one town, to massive enterprises that encompass an entire region!
