Stop by The Italian Market this Friday for a free wine tasting hosted by yours truly, Vassie “The Wine Guy”.

With the impending snow storm I picked out some great wines from Northern and Southern Italy to help bolster our spirits while we’re snowed in.

1. Ippolito Ciro Bianco: 100% Greco Bianco from Calabria. Refreshing and versatile, known for its tropical fruit flavors, citrus, peach, and great mineral/ saline backbone. ($21.99)

2. Ippolito “I Mori” Rosso: a full bodied red blend made of 70% Gaglioppo, and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes ripen beautifully in the Calabrian heat. This wine has flavors of rich black berry, cherry, vanilla, smokey spices, and has a long, well balanced finish. ($22.99)

3. Ricossa Appassimento Barbera: A bold and bursting Barbera from the Piedmont. These grapes are dried, concentrating its sugars, flavors, and aromas before fermentation, which results is a richer more complex wine. Big cherry and black fruit flavors dominate with a plush, velvety texture. ($17.99)

4. Barbacan “Jazpemi” Valtellina Superiore: SALE ALERT!
This is an amazing Nebbiolo from the Valtellina region of Lombardy, Italy. Organic, unfined, and unfiltered, this is pure Nebbiolo. Taste and feel this wine unfold with its many layers of raspberry, cherry, rose, anise, and finely integrated tannins. (On sale from $69.99 down to $58.99)
