FREE Wine Tasting
OCTOBER 16, 2026 5-7:30 pm
I’m back from vacation and ready for a Friday wine tasting! This week I’ve chosen wines from the Italian regions of Marche and Lazio to unpack. I find that theses places are under appreciated and deserve more credit for their influence on Italy’s wine culture. Lazio is having its own mini wine renaissance at the moment, and the Marche has remained nearly untouched by urban development, and is steadfastly committed to native grape varietals.
We will be tasting:
- Sartarelli Verdicchio del Castelli di Jesi Classico: The Sartarelli family are champions of Verdicchio, with a passion to make the finest Verddichio wines in Italy. They only produce wines made from this grape, but the style differences show the unique ability of Verddichio to reflect its terroir. The “Classico” shows notes of white peach, pear, soft citrus, with a round coating texture on the palate.
- Luciano Landi Lacrima di Moro D’Alba Superiore: wines from this region of Marche were first praised in the 12th century by the Holy Roman Emperor. Lacrima di Morro grapes offer wines of great complexity; rich and full bodied, with intense aromatics of violets, roses, dark berry fruits, and spices.
- Poggio Le Volpe Roma Classico: made from 100% Cesanese. This red grape is the native son of Rome. Grown exclusively in Lazio, this grape is making a comeback on the international stage as winemakers work to showcase their native varieties. Dry reds made from Cesanese are deeply aromatic, with notes of ripe cherry and berry fruits, sweet spices, and floral bouquet.
- Poggio Le Volpe Tator Cabernet Sauvignon: Lazio is embracing foreign grapes into their regions wine production. Grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Chardonnay are growing beautifully there, yet they still take on the accent of Italy. This Cabernet is deep and full bodied with structured tannins and lifted acidity. Its flavors of blackberry, currant, underbrush, tobacco, and spices are unmistakable.
See ya at The Market
