Tonight we will be tasting wines with Russ Lorber, Owner of Wide Roots Wine Distributors.  Russ has been on a mission to demystify European wines for over twelve years, and imports some great Italian wines.

Tonight’s wines are a fun mix of affordable everyday wines and lesser-known varietals and styles.

Tavernello Bianco:  The number one selling white wine in Italy!  Made from a blend of Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay.  This wine is fresh and snappy with citrus, stone fruits, and floral notes.

Modero “8 Gocce”:  meaning 8 drops in Italian, this is a blend of 8 different grapes from the Piedmont. Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Albarossa, Bonarda, Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah.
 
Rocca Nero Di Troia:  A lesser known grape from the southern reaches of Puglia.  Nero di Troia is believed to have been brought over to Italy by Greek settlers.  It creates a full bodied wine with dark cherry, black fruits, a hint of smokiness, tobacco, and velvety tannins.

Nera Pietra Sfortzato:  A real unique wine from Valtellina, Lombardy.  It is 100% Nebbiolo that is dried and pressed in the same style as making Amarone.  The resulting wine is rich, with deep concentrated red fruit flavors, and firm tannins.
